RHYS LEWIS
Things I Chose To Remember

Album production & song writing

Rhys and I spent 3 very enjoyable months in early 2019 recording his debut record together, released on Decca Records in July 2020. We recorded it in Talbot Studios, using a combined process of analogue and digital methods. In amongst the track list are 3 songs that we wrote together- ‘Better Than Today’, ‘When Was The Last Time?’ and ‘Some Days’.

Dermot Kennedy
Lost In The Soft Light

String arranging & Directing

In late 2019 I was asked to write and direct strings for a couple of Dermot Kennedy live sessions. It was a great pleasure to be asked, but with no rehearsals there was plenty of pressure. In April 2020 the tracks were released by Island Records on this EP, with the strings featuring on ‘All My Friends’ and ‘Outnumbered’.

Lewis Watson
The Love That You Want

String arranging & recording

In the summer of 2019, Lewis Watson’s producer, Rich Wilkinson, approached me to arrange and record strings for a few tracks on Lewis’ upcoming album, ‘The Love That You Want’. We arranged a date for Lewis, Rich and my favourite string quartet to come in to Talbot Studios, and recorded strings for 3 titles to 2” tape. While we were at it I recorded some upright piano in too. The arrangements can be heard on the titles, ‘Fly When I Fall’, ‘Another Song’ and ‘Loving Arms’.

Rhys Lewis
In Between Minds EP

Production & song writing

Released in April 2019 on Decca Records, In Between Minds is the first music that I worked on with Rhys. Having met playing together on his live show, I invited him into Talbot Studios, where we wrote ‘Better Than Today’, which features on this record. I was stunned by Rhys’ detailed approach to song writing. Rhys enjoyed recording to tape, and we ended up producing and tracking most of the EP at the studio together.

Love Ssega
I’m On Fire

Song Writing and Production

‘Over the pandemic Rhys and I produced his 2nd studio album, ‘Corner Of The Sky’. We recorded it mainly in Talbot Studios and almost all to 2” tape. We also did some ‘out’ recording at Rimshot Studios in Kent and Durham Studios in London. Writing wise, Rhys and I wrote 3 titles on this album together- ‘To Be Alive’, ‘Alone’ and ‘21st Century Life’. The album was released on Decca Records 20th Jan 2023.

Production

In 2017 I had 2 weeks of session booked in at Talbot Studios to create some music with Peter Randall. Working exclusively to tape we got stuck into composing and producing, but in the middle of it we had this idea for the Springsteen classic, ‘I’m On Fire’. Once we had recorded the backing track I asked my good friend Love Ssega to come down and vocal the track for us. The haunting female vocal is Katie Taylor.

LAKY
Under My Skin

Production

In 2017 I was approached by LAKY’s then manager to produce this song for her. I was blown away by her talent and have done a lot of work and song writing with her since. When I heard this song I had a clear feeling of the route to go down. I called some great musicians in and we tracked it all to 2” tape at Talbot Studios.

Kelli-Leigh
Paradise

Production & Song Writing

I wrote this song with Kelli-Leigh in 2016. She has an incredible voice and a decorated career in electronic music, so I was delighted that she was up for recording it all to tape at Talbot Studios. I think it was the first string session at the studio, and tracking this piece of music was a very special experience.

Rhys Lewis
The SUN WILL RISE

Song Writing and Production

During the first 3 months of the 2020 lockdown, Rhys and I lived in a friend’s studio, Blue Barn Studios, in the Cambridgeshire countryside, with the idea of working on new material. One song we wrote was this one. Decca found it very fitting for the strange time we were all living in and asked us to produce it up ready for a swift release. This is possibly my favourite song I have written and produced with Rhys.

Katie Taylor
Million Dollar Girl

Production

This production came out of the Talbot session with Peter Randall in 2017. Katie and Peter had written this beautiful song together, and it was a delight to record. I think this was the first time I had tracked pedal steel guitar at the studio. Unusually we recorded the drums last, and very late at night. I’m always blown away by her voice when I listen to this track.

Talbot Studios
LUKA

Composition & production

I wrote and recorded this with Peter Randall. At one point we wrote some lyrics for it, but then scrapped the whole chorus and replaced it with something which became much darker. At one point in the production the studio was like an obstacle course, with almost all the instruments and equipment plugged into one another. Lewis Wright’s drumming on this track is in my opinion spectacular, and I love the mysterious feel to the track as a whole.

Hajaj
LASt CALL for coco EP

Song Writing and Production

Hajaj and I have worked very closely since 2016. We wrote and recorded his first EP, 'Last Call for Coco’, in Talbot Studios- entirely to 2” tape. He has become a great friend of the studio over the years. Mixed partly by me at Talbot and partly by Rich Wilkison, and mastered by Gwyn Mathias.
